I.e. in the police, army, fire workers the preparation for โ€œuncertaintyโ€ is based on Training and Action learning, where people get used to uncertain situations. Research published in the journal โ€˜Action Learning: Research and Practiceโ€™ has shown how negative capability is a very good way for employees, and the business for which they work, to operate and work effectively in situations of uncertainty.

Working in predictable situations and environments makes people feel comfortable. Operating in VUCA environments and scenarios where people feel uncomfortable, require a big leap of faith to jump into the unknown.

People with NC are those who are driving change and new opportunities. This ability to manage uncertainty and the related anxiety and hardship is the central point of NC. Action learning could improve both people and internal organisations to react to what nowadays is named VUCA proactively. The research also shows the NC stimulates creativity and innovation, making people โ€œresourcefulโ€ Action Learning teaches the participants to slow down their thoughts, assess the situation, and avoid reactive thoughts and actions.
